Ceilidh (pronounced kay-lee) is a hugely enjoyable form of music and dancing, suitable for everyone whether they’re young or old. The music played by the Scottish and Irish Ceili Bands creates one of the most inclusive forms of entertainment available. In other words, everyone gets involved and this intoxicating music is suitable for all ages. Anyone who can 'walk' can take part, and absolutely no previous experience is necessary.

Our Bands are perfect for wedding celebrations. The live Ceilidh Bands we have for hire consist of musicians playing specialist instruments (the types of instruments that create attention because they are rarely seen at most events). There is also a caller.

The role of the caller is to encourage everyone onto the dance floor and then to explain the dances. They also often walk you through the dances, but you're never expected to remember all of the moves....in fact it's usually better if you don't. That's one of the reasons why this form of entertainment is more informal than some others.

Rags To Riches

Rags to Riches are flexible enough as regards personnel, instrumentation and musical style to be able to tailor a band to each client's specific requirements, and go out as anything from a duo to a six-piece, amplified or acoustic, with or without a caller.

Their most common format for a ceilidh consists of four musicians plus a caller who will teach the dances from scratch - no experience needed!

A Ceilidh is ideal for a successful wedding party, as it is a fun way to get families, friends and colleagues to mix and meet and because all age groups become involved.

Rags to Riches play traditional Irish, Scottish, English and American songs and tunes with innovation, flair and vitality. The band is both sensitive to the occasion and responsive to the mood of the audience. If you wish, they can concentrate on one particular style throughout the performance e.g. Scottish or Irish.

Please note; All quotes include Rags to Riches being 'on site' for up to 4 hours. Early arrivals or long breaks may incur extra charges.

4 piece band: guitar/vocals, banjo, accordion & caller also available

Rags to Riches includes some of the finest traditional musicians in London. All the musicians have been performing touring and recording for many years and two are award-winning performers.

The Moon

The Moon’s provides a truly unique Ceilidh experience. Imagine the accessibility of traditional dance music combined with the power of rock and funk music. Unlike many ‘electric’ barn dance bands, the Moon’s sound is more than just an acoustic folk band grafted onto a pub-rock rhythm section. The music has been developed as true fusion of the best of traditional and modern dance rhythms.

The Moon’s can tailor the band's line up to suit every event from a five piece including fiddle, guitar/synth, bass and drums to the full ten piece with a brass section and extra percussion.

The Moon’s are one of the busiest as well as one of the most experienced ceilidh / barn dance bands on the function circuit. Mentioned on the BBC Radio Two website as one of the high profile UK dance bands, the band has over two decades of experience in providing dance music for weddings, corporate and private functions and will ensure that your client's event runs smoothly and that everyone has a good time.
